CONGRATULATIONS to LYDIA BRAMBILA, 2019 Vic Chesnutt Songwriter of the Year!

The five Finalists (and songs performed) for the 2019 Vic Chesnutt Songwriter of the Year were:

  • Lydia Brambila, Sirena
  • Don Chambers, The Last Thursday
  • Carly Joy King, Just Listen
  • Greg Meredith, Mirrors
  • Ross Shapiro, Possibilities (performed by Joe Rowe and Doug Stanley)

 The award, which carries a $1,000 prize, is named in honor of Vic Chesnutt, an internationally renowned singer-songwriter from Athens, and is presented by the Rotary Club of the Classic City of Athens.

The winner alsos receive studio recording time, courtesy of Amplify/Nuci's Space and Japanski Studio, and a month of publicity and radio promotion campaign, courtesy of Team Clermont and owners Bill Benson and Nelson Wells.

The finalists and other great musicians perform at the awards event.

The third annual Vic Chesnutt Songwriter of the Year Award was presented at an event held at The Foundry on May 16, 2019. Nominations were open from January to March 15, 2019 for songs released during 2018.

 

New this year, we held a special "kick-off" event in February to raise awareness of the award and nominations process. This free event, featuring local songwriting, took place at Hendershots.

Funds raised from the event are used to award a cash prize to the Songwriter of the Year, to benefit Nuci's Space (a local non-profit health and resource center for musicians), and to support the Classic City Rotary Club’s community service activities, which include local efforts to promote the arts, support literacy and education, enhance the outdoors, and support local quality of life in conjunction with area non-profits. Each year, Classic City Rotary provides hundreds of service hours and substantial funding in support of local and international humanitarian initiatives, including local beneficiaries such as the Acceptance Recovery Center, Books for Keeps, JJ Harris Elementary School, Athens Youth Symphony, Nuci's Space, Red Cross, and more!)

Classic City Rotary Club has 501c3 status, potentially making donations to the event tax-deductible (check with your tax advisor).
